Treat And Health Fair For Clarendon Church
The
yearly back-to-school giveaways put on by the Free Town Church of God of
Prophecy in Clarendon has seen the church impacting children in the Free Town,
Sandy Bay, Bodles and Longville Park communities, and this year will be no
different.

The
newly formed Free Town Church of God of Prophecy Outreach Foundation Limited
will be upping the ante by hosting a Health Fair and Back to School Treat on
Friday, August 11, 2017 beginning at 10 a.m.
Pastor
Zebulah Aiken says it has always been the desire of the church to make more of
an impact in the various communities, and that was the catalyst for forming the
foundation.
"This
is the first main project since it was officially given the status of a
charitable organisation," she said.
"For
that day, we will be teaming up with the Clarendon Inter-Agency Network to have
select agencies come and assist with the children."
The
foundation is also hoping that through contributions it will be in a position
to offer a few scholarships to children who have done well in their Grade Six
Achievement Test, as well as making the effort to give a contribution to
students who demonstrate a need and are facing financial challenges in high
school.
"It
is for this reason the church is reaching out to the diaspora as well as local
entities to come on board to make the back-to-school event an overwhelming
success. So we welcome contributions of back-to-school supplies or
contributions towards scholarships and snacks to treat the children during the
day," stated Pastor Aiken.
She
also took the opportunity to thank the overseas friends of the church who are
aiding by putting together back-to-school supplies for the children. The
foundation is already hoping to add to its growing numbers of recipients.
There is still time to come on board as we need all the help we can get.

Together we did!!
Children in the Free Town and nearby environs were feted by the Sunday School department of the Miracle Tabernacle Free Town Church of God of Prophecy in Clarendon.
Can't wait until my turn! |
The
annual treat, now in its 12th year saw the children being treated to
food, drinks, entertainment and the day completed with a goody bag.
For
Sunday School Superintendent Marcia Thompson Bryan it was worth it all.
“Just
to see the smile on their faces and to know that we had a part in putting it
there is a feeling that we just cannot explain,” she said.
With
each year as companies tighten their budgets and spending power gets less, it
is a challenge to keep the event going.
The
thought of giving up on them though is too much to entertain and so the
outreach continues as the team seeks new sponsors to come on board with the
effort.

“There
are some faithfuls who have been with us almost since inception…Supreme
Venture, Shagore Aggregates, Lasco and Anthony Turner and his crew out of New
York,” said Bryan.
Clarendon-born
singjay I-Octane has been a big help to the team for the third straight year he
has donated cases of Busta Soft Drinks to towards the treat.
“We
just want to thank him…although it would be nice for the children to thank him
in person one of these years,” said Bryan with a smile.
This
year the treat would not be a reality had it not been for the following people
who helped in monetary contributions or in ensuring the barrels had enough
stuff to be shipped.
