The Upper Room of Prayer hosts Convention and Workshop May 4 – 6 in Brooklyn

Cognizant of the crucial role that the church has been ordained to play in the wider society, The Upper Room  of Prayer will be hosting a free special convention and workshop to be held  May 4 – 6 at the church’s headquarters located at 1698 Carroll Street in Brooklyn, NY.

The theme for this event is “Getting Ready for the Battlefield”.  The convention services are scheduled to run for the entire weekend and kicks off on Friday May 4th at 7PM with an anointed speaker, who will  explore the topic “The Functions of the Holy Spirit”.  The speakers for all three nights will deliver sermons related to the theme and topic, all starting at 7PM.  There will also be a service on Sunday morning which starts at 11 AM.
The workshop sessions will be held on Saturday, May 5th, starting at 9:30 AM.

According to Pastor Sylvia White, this is definitely a workshop with a difference and she is imploring all who have an interest in religion, health,  law, politics and simple day-to-day living to come and feast.  “As we stated in our theme, we are preparing for battle and as soldiers we need to know the techniques and strategies to win the war,” Dr. White said firmly.  Topics to be explored at the workshops include Immigration Information, which will include the hot button topic, DACA;  Entrepreneurship and Small Business Start-Up; Home Ownership and Government Programs for Buying Your Own Home, Safety and Disaster Emergency Preparedness and Health Plan Options. There will also be CPR training for the family, nutrition education and blood pressure screening.

Pastor White confirmed that one of the guest speakers for the workshop will be none other  than Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, a Brooklyn native, whose bio  states that she is proud of her Jamaican heritage.  A recipient of the prestigious APPAM/Sloan Fellowship in Public Policy and Policy Analysis, Congresswoman Clarke is the Co-Chair of the Black Women & Girls Caucus and the Caribbean Caucus, among others.

“There will be something for everyone,” Dr. White emphasized, adding that she commended the Women’s Ministry of the Upper Room of Prayer for this timely workshop series and convention.  Partners include NACA, NYC Health Hospitals, Kings County, City of New York Police Department, Brooklyn Business Centre,  Metro Plus Health Plan and Administration for  Children's Services (ACS.
