TV Is My Shepherd
I don’t know who first penned this, but a brother at church
shared it with me in something he has written. Thought it might be helpful and
challenging for some in this over-connected, over-imaged world we live in:
The TV is my shepherd,
I shall want more.
It makes me lie down on the sofa.
It leads me away from the faith;
It destroys my soul.
It leads me in the path of sex and violence
for the sponsor’s sake.
Yeah, though I walk in the shadow of Christian responsibility,
there will be no interruption, for the TV is with me.
It’s cables and remote control, they comfort me.
It prepares a commercial for me in the presence of my worldliness;
It anoints my head with humanism and consumerism;
My coveting runneth over.
Surely, laziness and ignorance shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house watching TV for ever.
I shall want more.
It makes me lie down on the sofa.
It leads me away from the faith;
It destroys my soul.
It leads me in the path of sex and violence
for the sponsor’s sake.
Yeah, though I walk in the shadow of Christian responsibility,
there will be no interruption, for the TV is with me.
It’s cables and remote control, they comfort me.
It prepares a commercial for me in the presence of my worldliness;
It anoints my head with humanism and consumerism;
My coveting runneth over.
Surely, laziness and ignorance shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house watching TV for ever.
Happiness is contentment
You were born in a first class
hospital, I was delivered at home, we both survived.
You
went to a private primary school and I went to a public school, we both ended
in the same high school.
You
woke up from the bed and I woke from the floor, we both had a peaceful night
rest.
Your outfits are all expensive, mine
are all simple and cheap, we both still cover our nakedness.
You ate fried rice and
roasted chicken, I ate local made food but we both still ate to our
satisfaction.
You ride on Lexus jeep,
Range Rover, G Wagon, Hummer Jeep and I use public transport but we still got
to our various destination.
You may be reading this
post from your Sony xperia, BB Z10, Q10, Samsung Galaxy 6edge, IPhone6+ and I
typed it with my Touch one broken screen, we still see the message.
Lifestyle is not a
competition and there are different ways to get a lot of things done, different
lanes all leading to the same destination. Just because your neighbour is doing
things faster does not mean you are failing.
Happiness doesn't come
from having everything, but making the best out of what you have, it's all
about how you see yourself.
Happiness is not having
what you like. Happiness is liking what you have and being content.
God is good!
A
King had a male servant who, in all circumstances always said to
My
king, do not be discouraged because everything God does is perfect, no
mistakes.
One day, they went hunting and a wild animal attacked the
king, the servant managed to kill the animal but couldn't prevent his majesty from losing
a finger.
Furious
and without showing gratitude,
the
King said; if God was good, I would not have been attacked and lost one finger.
The servant replied 'despite all these things, I can only
tell you that God is good and everything He does is perfect, He is never
wrong'.
Outraged by the response, the king ordered the arrest of his
servant.
While
being taken to prison, he told the king again, God is Good & Perfect.
Another
day, the king left alone for another hunt and was captured by savages who use
human beings for sacrifice.
On the altar, the savages found out that the king didn't have
one finger in place, he was released because he was considered not
"complete" to be offered to the Gods On his return
to the palace, he ordered the release of his servant and said;
My
friend, God was really good to me. I was almost killed but for lack of a single
finger. I was let go.
But I have a question; If God is so good, why did He allow me
to put you in prison?
His servant replied; My king, if I had not been put in
prison, I would have gone with you, and would have been sacrificed, because I
have no missing finger.
Everything
God does is perfect, He is never wrong.
Often
we complain about life, and the negative thinking in us kills the positivity in
us...so think positive and trust God at every moment....
God
knows why he choose you to read this message today, please bless someone with
it by sharing it.
God is good
and perfect!!
5 Ways to Jump Start Your Walk With God
Source: beliefnet.com
I had some car troubles recently. My poor, tired old battery just
couldn’t pull its weight anymore, and I had to get jumped by friends and
strangers on several occasions. What once worked with ease now needed an
additional aid just to get going. I need an influx of power in my car before it
was worth a hill of beans.
Does that remind you of your walk with God? What
was once a vibrant and passionate love affair is now stale, dry, and
burdensome? Time and again, I go through this process of being “on fire” for
the Lord, and then out of nowhere I realize I haven’t even been warm for a
fortnight. The Christian life is riddled with mountaintop moments of victory,
and humbling hauls through valleys that seem to stretch through the horizon.
Having a few tricks up our sleeve to help jump
start ourselves back into the water-walking, mountain-moving men and women of
faith we are is essential to any Christian that’s going to be sticking around
for the long haul. Here’s 5 that I’ve picked up along the way:
Do Something Different
We all know that the definition of insanity is
to do the same action repeatedly, but to expect a different result. But for
some reason the counsel many lonesome Christians often get when they’ve entered
a dry spell is to just hang in there – the season will change…eventually.
Sometimes this works, but often it doesn’t. That’s why it’s often a great idea
to listen to a different preacher, read the Bible in a different translation,
pray in a different room – really just about anything that is intentional and new
will do the trick. You could even take up a new (or classically old) devotional
as well. Just get out of that rut, whatever you do!
Talk It Over With a Friend, Then Pray
A friend sticks closer than a brother, and when
better to use your friends than when the most precious relationship to you has
gotten stale? Real friends are there for you when the going gets too tough for
you to handle on your own. Having a friend remind you of a few truths you may
have forgotten is often the best antidote for that disconnect we’ve all felt
with the Lord. But, it’s even better to then pray together. Hearing God’s truth
proclaimed from someone else has a knack for changing our perceptions. Not only
that, but it also is very helpful to have someone praying for you. Prayer – it
really does work!
Devote At Your Peak Hours
I happen to be a morning person, I spring out of
bed happy as a jaybird before the sun even rises. My sweet wife? Not so much.
She prefers the solitude of night, and tends to sleep in at every opportunity.
So for both of us the idea of a set quiet time at anything other than our
“peak” hours is simply not gonna happen. Since I rise and shine so early, I
turn into Cinderella’s pumpkin at night. So I get up and spend some time of
study and adoration first thing in the morning. If wifey tried that, she’d slug
through the motions, but wouldn’t be of much use to anyone for a solid 3 more
hours. Traditional Christian culture has told many of us that the only “right”
way to do devotions is first thing in the morning. If that’s not working for
you, feel free to adjust your devotional time to a better fit
Take Up A New Discipline
Admittedly, this is very
similar to the “Do Something Different” – but it’s slightly, well, different.
There are 12 Spiritual Disciplines, and a renewed focus on any of them might
add a new dimension to your walk with God. These 12 Spiritual Disciplines are:
- Prayer
- Meditation
- Fasting
- Study
- Simplicity
- Submission
- Solitude
- Service
- Confession
- Guidance
- Celebration
- Worship
As you can see, there’s plenty of room to work with here – and
most of us do not faithfully practice half of these, let alone all of them.
There’s ample room for all of us to grow in any one of these arenas.
Discipline, it’s the new “in” thing!
Ask God For Help
If
you’re anything like me, you tend to like to do things your own way. There’s
nothing inherently wrong with that (at least that’s what I keep telling
myself), but when it comes to transformative change in our lives, we need some
help from God. Fixing us beat up jars of clay is kind of his specialty. If we
could do it all on our own, we wouldn’t really need him, now would we? But
sincere prayer of asking for guidance, grace, and direction always yields
results. If not immediately, then eventually. How many times, after we’ve tried
everything else, do we finally submit and ask God for help? They are manifold.
Humble yourself, and ask for the grace needed to love and serve God like you
know he deserves. It’ll be the best thing you ever do.
Evening Dinner with a Father
A
son took his old father to a restaurant for an evening dinner. Father
being very old and weak, while eating, dropped food on his shirt and trousers.
Other diners watched him in disgust while his son was calm.
After
he finished eating, his son who was not at all embarrassed, quietly took him to
the wash room, wiped the food particles, removed the stains, combed his hair
and fitted his spectacles firmly. When they came out, the entire
restaurant was watching them in dead silence, not able to grasp how someone
could embarrass themselves publicly like that. The son settled the bill
and started walking out with his father.
At
that time, an old man amongst the diners called out to the son and asked him,
“Don’t you think you have left something behind?”
The
son replied, “No sir, I haven’t”.
The
old man retorted, “Yes, you have! You left a lesson for every son and
hope for every father”.
The
restaurant went silent.
Moral:
To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors. We
all know, how our parents cared for us for every little things. Love
them, respect them, and care for them.
